CAN I SLEEP WHEREVER I WANT?

In Canada, the only place where you are allowed to stop and spend the night in your RV is a campground. It is strictly prohibited to spend the night in a rest stop or shopping centre parking lot, with the possible exception of Wal-Mart.

CAMPGROUNDS
There are thousands of campgrounds in Canada. To make a reservation, you will need to know the length of your vehicle and the number of persons. Be sure to reserve in a campground that allows RVs. It will cost between $25 and $75, depending on the season, the destination and the number of services provided.

Campgrounds in Canada are classified according to the number of services:

1 service = electricity
2 services = electricity and water
3 services = electricity, water and sewer facilities

REST STOPS
Rest stops are situated along major highways. You can recognise them with the help of these highway signs (right). It is prohibited to spend the whole night at a rest stop. Parking is permitted for a maximum of 4 hours. If you decide to take a chance, it is highly likely that you will be woken up in the middle of the night and forced to move on.

SHOPPING CENTRES
Note that it is prohibited in Canada to spend the night in a shopping centre parking lot. However, the Wal-Mart chain does offer this privilege. Having said this, you must still ask the store for permission before parking your RV there for the night.
