Stay on the Magdalen Islands

Séjour aux Îles-de-la-MadeleineThis afternoon you head for the picturesque Magdalen Islands, an archipelago of a dozen islands and several small islets, half of which are connected by undulating sandbars.

To get there, you must make your way to Souris, where you take the ferry out to the half-moon shaped archipelago located in the heart of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The CTMA ferry arrives in Cap-aux-Meules, Magdalen Islands around 7:00 p.m. Drive to Grande-Entrée, at the eastern end of the archipelago.

Along this scenic route, take the time to contemplate the magnificent landscapes that characterize the Islands so well: blue ocean everywhere, rolling dunes, the horizon stretching to infinity... Roll your windows down and take a deep breath of the salty sea air. Welcome to the Magdalen Islands!

Spend a first night on the Islands, in your charming country-style room at Auberge la Salicorne.

Séjour aux Îles-de-la-MadeleineFirst morning on the Islands. Over coffee and breakfast, you meet with the innkeeper to discuss the details of your stay.

If you opt for the Nature Tour, start your day with a nature hike, accompanied by a guide from the inn. History, bird-watching, dunes, fauna and flora are on the program.

Visit the beautiful hidden corners of the eastern part of the Islands (red sandstone bluffs, the walrus trail...) and enjoy authentic activities such as digging for clams and taking a mud bath by the sea.

Island dinner and overnight at Auberge de la Salicorne.

Séjour aux Îles-de-la-MadeleineToday, your 3rd day on the Magdalens, get ready for a great day of adventures with a discovery tour of the western part of the archipelago.

Your day is filled with discoveries to suit your tastes and interests: spectacular landscapes (red cliffs on Dunes-du-sud beach, breathtaking views along Chemin des Montants, La Grave historical site), unique artists (La Méduse glassblowing studio, Artisans du Sable, Boutique d’Art Tendance) and local specialties (Fumoir d’Antan smokehouse, artisanal and traditional wine, Pied-de-Vent cheese factory and À l’Abri de la Tempête microbrewery).

Island dinner and overnight at Auberge de la Salicorne.

Séjour aux Îles-de-la-MadeleineFor your final day on the Magdalen Islands, you are free to plan your own program.

If you wish, your hosts can suggest a detailed itinerary to guide your exploration of the village of Grande-Entrée: the colourful fishing port, "Couleur-pêcheur" photo exhibition, local craft boutiques, etc.

Along the way, stop at the small white church perched on the clifftop or go for a walk on Boudreau Island. This is a golden opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of the Madelinots with their close ties to the sea.

Last supper and last night at Auberge de la Salicorne.

Séjour aux Îles-de-la-MadeleineOn your final morning on the archipelago, be sure to take the time to watch the sun rise over the ocean.

After a continental breakfast you set out around 6:00 a.m. for Cap-aux-Meules, where the ferry awaits for a 8:00 a.m. departure.

It's time to leave the Magdalen Islands, with heavy hearts and indelible memories of this colourful and fascinating dream destination...
