Which RV or campervan rental company should you choose in Canada?

Chloé Corneillier August 29, 2026 Comment this post

I've been working with RV rental companies in Canada for almost 10 years. In this article, I'll give you a complete overview of the main players in the market, from large national networks and regional specialists to campervan rental companies. There's no ranking here, just everything you need to know to choose the right one for your trip.

1. The major RV and campervan rental companies in Canada

Four rental companies cover most of the country. They have large fleets, locations in several provinces and a standardised level of service. Here's what really sets them apart.

CanaDream motorhome for hire in Canada
Canada's large motorhome hire networks offer extensive fleets and operate across multiple provinces, providing plenty of choice for your trip.

CanaDream

CanaDream is one of Canada's largest RV rental companies. Founded in 1994, the company is now owned by New Zealand-based thl. It has been a well-established name in Canada for years and is known for its customer service and well-maintained vehicles.

  • More than 1,500 vehicles in its fleet
  • 7 locations from coast to coast: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Toronto, Montréal, Halifax
  • Mixed fleet: traditional RVs and campervans
  • Ideal for travellers who value comfort and highly responsive customer service

Chloé's tip: CanaDream offers some of the most responsive customer service in the market. That's particularly useful if something unexpected happens on the road, and makes it a reassuring choice for families visiting Canada for the first time.

Fraserway

Fraserway is one of Canada's largest independent RV rental companies. Founded in 1969, it was long associated mainly with Western Canada, but today its network stretches right across the country.

  • Locations from coast to coast: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montréal, Halifax, Whitehorse
  • Wide-ranging fleet: from 2-berth campervans to Class A/C RVs sleeping up to 6 people
  • One of the newest fleets on the market
  • Transfers to the rental location are included in most cities, a genuine advantage that few other rental companies offer

Chloé's tip: very few rental companies include a free transfer from the airport or your hotel to the rental location. Fraserway does in most of its cities, saving you an unexpected expense when you arrive.

Four Seasons RV Rentals

Four Seasons is Fraserway's more affordable brand. Founded in 2006, it offers a very similar experience to its parent company, but at a lower price.

  • Around 250 vehicles and 5 locations: Vancouver (Abbotsford), Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Halifax
  • Mixed fleet: campervans and traditional RVs
  • Vehicles are generally 3 to 5 years old
  • Ideal for a good balance between comfort and budget, without compromising on quality

Chloé's tip: Fraserway vehicles often move into the Four Seasons fleet after around two years of service. That means you can get a vehicle that's still in very good condition for a more affordable price.

Cruise Canada

Cruise Canada is the Canadian arm of Cruise America. Operating in Canada since 1972, it has the largest RV fleet in North America.

  • Locations in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montréal, Halifax
  • Plenty of availability, even during peak season
  • An older fleet than the market average
  • Ideal for a first RV road trip on a tighter budget

Chloé's tip: this is our most frequently booked partner. Its prices are hard to beat, and the sheer size of the fleet means greater availability, a real advantage if you're booking at the last minute.

2. Regional specialists and newer rental companies

Other rental companies have a more specific focus, whether that's a particular region, a newer fleet or something a little different from the usual offering. Here are four worth knowing about.

Converted pickup truck for hire in Canada
Regional hire companies complement the larger networks, often providing more tailored services and unique vehicle options.

Cité Caravane

Cité Caravane is a Quebec-based company with locations in Montréal.

  • Generous mileage allowance, with up to 160km/day included depending on the rental period, which is unusual in this market
  • Modern, well-maintained fleet
  • Limited availability, so it's best to book early
  • Ideal for a road trip covering plenty of kilometres, provided you book well in advance

Chloé's tip: few rental companies include this much mileage. If you're planning a long itinerary, it can make a significant difference to the final cost of your trip.

RVandB.net

RVandB.net operates in Montréal and Quebec City, with pick-up points close to the airports.

  • The only fully equipped RV option in Quebec City, with a bathroom and shower
  • A more expensive alternative to the large national companies
  • Well rated on review platforms, with a score close to 5/5 on Outdoorsy, albeit based on a relatively small number of reviews
  • Ideal if you want a fully equipped RV and are starting your trip in Quebec City

Chloé's tip: if you're setting off from Quebec City and want a bathroom on board, this is more or less your only option. The other rental companies operating there only offer campervans.

Newfoundland RV Rentals

Based in Clarenville, around two hours from St. John's, this is the only RV rental company on the island of Newfoundland.

  • The only RV rental company in Newfoundland
  • Airport delivery available to St. John's, Gander and Deer Lake for an additional fee
  • A great player in terms of client service

Chloé's tip: if your road trip includes Newfoundland, check the cost of the airport transfer when you book. It can quickly become a significant part of your budget.

Indie Campers

Indie Campers is Authentik's newest rental partner in Canada, with a particularly varied fleet.

  • One of the most diverse fleets on the market: Jeeps with rooftop tents, compact campervans and larger vehicles sleeping up to 8 people
  • Some of the most generous mileage allowances on the market
  • Part of Indie Campers, the international platform that recently acquired the European brands Bunk Campers and Just Go
  • Ideal for larger families or anyone looking for a more unusual van life experience, such as a Jeep with a rooftop tent

Chloé's tip: this is the only rental company offering a Jeep with a rooftop tent, a genuinely different option for a Canadian road trip.

Meridian RV

Meridian RV is a family-owned company based in Vancouver, specializing in traditional RVs.

  • Only available in Vancouver
  • Small fleet of traditional vehicles
  • Very limited availability, dates book up fast
  • Good early-season discounts for those who book ahead

Chloé's tip: this is one of the fastest-booking RV company in our whole network. If Meridian RV catches your eye, don't wait, spots disappear within weeks.

3. Campervan specialists

A campervan drives much like a car, but usually offers less comfort than a traditional RV and, in most cases, has no shower or toilet. Three rental companies specialise exclusively in this type of vehicle.

Campervan on a road trip in Canada
More compact and easier to drive than a traditional motorhome, a campervan is ideal for travellers who value simplicity and freedom on the open road.

North Campervans

North Campervans is a small family-run business based in Calgary.

  • Vehicles are kept directly at the owner's property
  • Converted Dodge Caravans and SUVs with a bed and kitchenette, but no bathroom or electricity
  • Suitable for 2 to 4 people
  • Ideal for a simple, affordable van life experience

Chloé's tip: this is van life at its simplest. There's no shower or toilet, but that's exactly what some travellers are looking for when they want to travel light.

Baroudeur

Baroudeur is a Montréal-based company that also has a presence in Quebec City.

  • Campervans with a bed and cooking kit included
  • No bathroom or shower
  • Suitable for 2 to 4 people
  • Ideal for exploring Quebec by campervan on a smaller budget

Chloé's tip: a cooking kit is available when you book through Authentik, making it easy to prepare your own meals during your road trip.

Karma Campervans

Karma offers brand-new campervans with a little more comfort than the previous two rental companies.

  • Brand-new vehicles with a sink and electricity on board
  • No shower or toilet
  • Locations in Vancouver and Calgary, with occasional availability in Moncton and Ottawa
  • Ideal for van life with a few extra comforts

Chloé's tip: these are excellent vehicles, but availability is very limited. Some dates can book up as much as a year in advance.

4. Comparison tables: choosing a rental company based on your priorities

When choosing your hire company, several factors come into play, including the vehicle type, regions covered and included mileage.

Table 1: the key criteria for choosing an RV rental company

The table above gives you an overview. Here's what each criterion means in practical terms.

Criterion What it means in practice
Vehicle type CanaDream, Fraserway and Four Seasons offer campervans as well as RVs. By contrast, campervans from North Campervans and Baroudeur/Vanpackers have no bathroom, while Karma Campervans vehicles do have a sink but no shower or toilet.
Areas covered In Newfoundland, Newfoundland RV Rentals is your only option. In Quebec City, RVandB.net is the only company offering a fully equipped RV. Karma Campervans is the only one serving Moncton and Ottawa.
Included mileage Cité Caravane and Indie Campers offer generous mileage allowances, with up to 5,000 km included at Cité Caravane. Elsewhere, additional kilometres may be charged separately, so check carefully if you're planning a long itinerary.
Airport/hotel transfer to the rental location Fraserway includes this free of charge in most cities, which is unusual. Elsewhere, transfers can cost several hundred dollars, particularly in Newfoundland.
Age of the fleet An older fleet, such as Cruise Canada's, can often mean more competitive prices. Fraserway and Four Seasons also renew their fleets in tandem.
How far ahead to book With Karma Campervans or Cité Caravane, some dates can book up as much as a year in advance. It's worth planning ahead.

Table 2: comparison of vehicle rental companies in Canada

Baroudeur / Vanpackers Camper van Montreal, Quebec City - - No shower or toilet
Karma Campervans Camper van Vancouver, Calgary + occasional availability in Moncton and Ottawa - - Brand new vehicles, with sink and electricity on board

A word from Chloé: after almost ten years of working with these rental companies, one thing is clear: there isn't one bad choice, only choices that aren't right for a particular trip. The simplest campervan can be perfect for a couple looking for freedom. The largest RV can be far more than you need for a weekend away. The best approach is to start with your itinerary, not a rental company's reputation.
