- Snow coach on the Athabasca Glacier
Snow coach on the Athabasca Glacier
Duration: Approximately 90 minutes
Time: Between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM
Season: May to October
Departure from: Columbia Icefield Center (Highway 93 N)
This tour will take you to the surface of the Athabasca Glacier, which happens to be at an altitude of 2700 meters, thanks to the "Ice Explorer": A massive vehicle specially designed for glacier travel.
During this exciting journey, an experienced driver-guide will share with you a wealth of fascinating information about glaciers, icefields, and their impact on our environment.
Your tour includes a stop along the glacier, where you can take photos, walk on the ice, and even fill your water bottle with glacial ice water.
The Athabasca Glacier is one of the 6 major glaciers in the Columbia Icefield. Suffice it to say, it's the must-do excursion for anyone venturing on the Icefields Parkway!
great fun and special
Humbling experience
Good to do and very knowledgeable staff, just very sad on a personnel level to know how far the glacier used to go and when it will be completely gone. I'm really glad I got to experience it and see it. Best water I have ever drunk from there!!! Lots of other buses and people on the glacier at the same time. Booked the Skywalk separate but still used the same transport provided by the company.
Sadly, slowly receeding due to global warming. Act now!
Take a sip from the Glacial stream.
