Canada isn’t just about bears, turquoise lakes and unforgettable road trips. It’s also a favourite escape for celebrities looking to switch off and disappear into nature.

From Tom Hanks to Scarlett Johansson, not forgetting the Beckhams or Ryan Gosling, countless stars head to Canada for mountain retreats, lakeside cabins and wide-open spaces. And honestly, it’s easy to see why.

Here are the Canadian destinations celebrities keep coming back to.

Muskoka, Ontario: Canada’s nature-loving celebrity escape

Muskoka charms stars like David Beckham, Tom Hanks, and The Rock.

Often nicknamed the “millionaires’ cottage country”, Muskoka has long been the summer retreat of North American celebrities. Just north of Toronto, this peaceful region of forests and lakes is perfect for anyone seeking privacy, nature and a slower pace of life.

Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Golden Globe-winning actress Kate Hudson all own properties here. Harry Styles is also rumoured to have stayed in the area to escape the intensity of touring life. Even Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds have reportedly spent time here.

David Beckham and his family regularly share glimpses of their stays on social media, making the most of the region’s outdoor lifestyle.

And honestly, Muskoka is exactly how many travellers imagine Canada: quiet lakes, wooden cabins and evenings by the fire. We’d happily take Tom Hanks as a neighbour for the week.

Niagara Falls: Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes… and Royal visits

How about a romantic getaway to Niagara Falls like Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes?

Niagara Falls attracts millions of visitors every year — including a few famous faces looking for a romantic getaway.

That includes Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, who have both been spotted in the region. On the royal side, Princess Diana once brought William and Harry here during an official visit to Canada.

And it’s easy to understand the appeal. Niagara Falls has that unusual mix of old-school glamour and raw natural power. One moment you’re surrounded by retro hotels, casinos and bright lights the next, you’re standing in front of one of the world’s most spectacular waterfalls.

A classic Canadian stop, and one that never disappoints.

Banff and Jasper: Bryan Cranston’s Canadian Rockies road trip

Bryan Cranston loved his stay in Banff and Jasper national parks, where he first visited in 1971.

Bryan Cranston appears to have completely fallen for the Canadian Rockies. To celebrate his 35th wedding anniversary in 2024, the Breaking Bad actor travelled through Banff and Jasper National Parks with his wife and judging by his Instagram photos, it looked like the ultimate Canadian adventure.

On the itinerary: canoeing on Lake Louise, hiking around Moraine Lake and taking the Rocky Mountaineer train towards Jasper. A real Authentik road trip!

And the Rockies clearly attract celebrity couples. In October 2025, Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey Bieber were also seen around Banff and Lake Louise, reportedly celebrating their seventh wedding anniversary.

Montreal: Why celebrities love Quebec’s biggest city

From Gad Elmaleh to Russell Crowe to Laurie Thilleman, Montreal is THE city of stars par excellence.

Gad Elmaleh has often spoken about his affection for Montreal, where he lived for several years. He regularly returns to enjoy the city’s unique atmosphere. Former Miss France Laury Thilleman also seems to have fallen for Montreal, sharing several snapshots of her trip on Instagram.

And it’s not only French celebrities who love the city. Russell Crowe has repeatedly spoken about his attachment to Canada. The New Zealand actor has visited seven Canadian provinces since first discovering the country in 1992 — and he’s also praised several of Montreal’s restaurants over the years.

There’s something about Montreal’s mix of culture, food and laid-back energy that leaves a lasting impression.

The Laurentians: Even Catherine Zeta-Jones fell for Tremblant

With its luxurious chalets, tranquility and ski resort, Mont Tremblant attracts celebrities seeking a Canadian pied-à-terre.

Mont-Tremblant and the Laurentians have long attracted celebrities looking for nature, privacy and luxury cabins surrounded by forest.

So much so that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas bought property in the region.

French singer Matt Pokora also travelled across Quebec to film the programme Sur la route avec Matt Pokora, alongside six young French adults living with Down syndrome. The road trip included Mont-Tremblant, Montreal, Quebec City, the Saguenay Fjord and several nature stops along the way.

With scenic roads, vast forests and stylish lakeside lodges, the Laurentians are made for a Canadian road trip whether by car or by RV.

Whistler, British Columbia: Canada’s celebrity ski resort

Just two hours from Vancouver, Whistler is probably Canada’s most celebrity-filled ski destination.

David and Victoria Beckham have holidayed here with their family, while Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Prince Harry have all reportedly been spotted on the slopes over the years.

The atmosphere? Think alpine village meets relaxed luxury. Cosy cafés, boutique hotels, endless ski runs and lively après-ski spots where you could easily find yourself sitting next to a Hollywood actor without realising it.

Mauricie: Quebec’s wild winter escape for celebrities

Summer or winter, Mauricie is a top destination in Quebec.

Quebec’s Mauricie region also attracts its share of famous visitors. In 2025, Angélique Angarni-Filopon, Miss France 2025, travelled there alongside several former Miss France winners to experience a true Canadian winter: snowmobiling, dog sledding, log cabins and endless snowy landscapes.

According to several reports, Zinédine Zidane also stayed in Mauricie at the famous Sacacomie lodge. The former footballer has often spoken about his fondness for Canada.

With its forests, frozen lakes and remote wilderness atmosphere, Mauricie is perfect for travellers wanting to completely switch off.

Tofino, Vancouver Island: Canada’s bohemian celebrity hideaway

A change of scenery and guaranteed anonymity in Tofino between the Pacific Ocean and wild forests.

On the wild west coast of Vancouver Island, Tofino attracts a different kind of celebrity, those looking to disconnect completely.

Scarlett Johansson is rumoured to have stayed here, along with Neil Patrick Harris, best known for playing Barney in How I Met Your Mother.

There’s no flashy luxury in Tofino. People come here to surf in the Pacific mist, watch storms roll in from a driftwood cabin and eat fish tacos overlooking the ocean.

It’s relaxed, remote and effortlessly cool.

The good news? You don’t need an Oscar, a Grammy or Ryan Reynolds’ bank account to experience Canada like a star.

“Sleeping in a lakeside cabin, spotting bears in Jasper, grabbing a coffee in Montreal or watching the sun set over the Rockies… these are the kinds of experiences anyone can enjoy with the right road trip. And honestly, you never know who you might run into on a terrace in Montreal or on a hiking trail in Whistler.” Mélaine
