When it comes to Western Canada, there's not only the Canadian Rockies. 

A road trip to the Vancouver Island holds just as many, if not more, beautiful natural wonders to witness. 

Here is my best Vancouver Island road trip itinerary!

Day 1 - Vancouver

Welcome to Vancouver!

If you do not have a lot of time today, I suggest a visit to the Kitsilano neighbourhood. 

Check out the shops and cafés on West 4th Avenue to get a true feel of what life in Vancouver is like

In the evening, walk along the Kitsilano Beach. 

Then, get some much deserved rest before you start your road trip tomorrow!

Day 2 - Vancouver / Victoria (116 km)

Today, you set out for the grand Vancouver Island. 

Take the ferry to Victoria, British Columbia's capital. 

Here, you will find lush nature intertwined with Victorian architecture. 

For your first day here, I suggest a visit to the Butchart Gardens. 

This 55-acre garden features a variety of beautiful flowers, trees, and water features.

Be sure to take a stroll through the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, and the Sunken Garden... And it's free!

Next, explore the Inner Habour.

In the heart of downtown Victoria, you can enjoy a walk along the waterfront and the views of the boats and seaplanes.

The best way to finish your day here is by going on a whale watching tour at sunset. 

There are a number of companies that offer tours from the harbour, but be sure to book in advance.

Day 3 - Victoria

For your full day here, go explore what makes Victoria unique: its historical gems and green spaces. 

A visit to the Royal BC Museum is a must.

It is home to a variety of exhibits that showcase the history of British Columbia.

My personal favourite is the First Nations exhibit, which highlights the rich culture and immense history of the Indigenous people of BC. 

Then, spend some time in nature at Beacon Hill Park, a beautiful park located just a short walk from downtown Victoria.

Take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful gardens, ponds, and wildlife. 

If you're working an appetite, I suggest a stop on Cook street before you visit the park. 

You can pick up lunch or a good coffee. 

I'm a fan of the Hot and Cold café, but there are plenty of options!

Finish your day with a visit to the Craigdarroch Castle, a Victorian-era mansion located in the Rockland neighbourhood. 

Their guided tour is a must to learn about the history of this stunning building. 

Day 4 - Victoria / Pacific Rim (318 km)

Today, you leave for your second destination on this road trip, the Pacific Rim region.

I suggest starting your time here with a visit to the Pacific Rim National Park for a hike.

There are several trails to choose from, but the Rainforest Trail is a must-see.

This easy trail will take you through a stunning old-growth forest, complete with towering trees and lush vegetation.

End your day by watching the sunset at Chesterman Beach.

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, with miles of soft sand and stunning views of the ocean. 

Day 5 - Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim is a mecca for surfers, especially in or near Tofino.

Start your morning off with an invigorating surf session at Long Beach.

This is a popular spot for both beginners and experienced surfers alike.

If you are not an adept, you can rent gear and take lessons from one of the many local surf schools. 

Grab lunch in Tofino, then head to Hot Springs Cove and enjoy a relaxing soak in the natural hot springs.

This is a truly unique experience in the middle of the Pacific Rim rainforest.

End your time in the Pacific Rim region with a delicious dinner at The Wolf in the Fog.

The restaurant offers a menu featuring locally-sourced ingredients and innovative dishes that celebrate the area's culinary traditions. 

Don't be fooled by its many awards, the vibe here is super laid back and convivial.

Day 6 - Pacific Rim / Qualicum Beach (206 km)

Although a stopover destination, Qualicum Beach can be very enjoyable. 

Head to the Qualicum Beach Farmers Market to check out the local produce, artisanal goods, and handmade crafts. 

After the market, take a stroll on the beautiful Qualicum Beach.

Enjoy the stunning views and take in the fresh ocean air.

End this day with a stop at Cuckoo Trattoria and Pizzeria for delicious wood-fired pizza and Italian dishes. 

Day 7 - Qualicum Beach / Northern Vancouver Island (355 km)

After exploring the laid-back south-east, a change of scenery is ahead. 

Welcome to Telegraph Cove, a fisherman town that is now the ultimate spot for ecotourism on the Island.

Start off with a scenic hike along the Telegraph Cove Boardwalk.

This easy trail gives you access to stunning views of the cove and surrounding wilderness.

You can't leave here without going on a whale observation safari. 

You may as well catch a few seals, sea lions, and more. 

Whether by boat or kayak, do not miss on this amazing opportunity. 

Day 8 - Northern Vancouver Island / Discovery Islands (214 km)

Next on the itinerary, the Discovery Islands!

You will soon find out why they are aptly named. 

For your first day here, I suggest a hike in the beautiful Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park.

Make sure to bring a picnic lunch, as its sandy beach is perfect for a relaxing break.

A kayaking tour is a must if you wish to see the stunning marine wildlife in the area.

End the day by looking at the stunning sunset over the Strait of Georgia.

Day 9 - Discovery Islands

Today, explore Quadra Island!

It is a spectacular destination for water sports enthusiasts.

Although a perfect spot for kayaking, the marine waters around Quadra Island are home to a dazzling array of underwater life.

Snorkeling is the perfect activity for viewing this fascinating underwater ecosystem.

End your day at the Discovery Islands Lodge for a delicious meal. 

Day 10 - Discovery Islands / Vancouver (244 km)

Welcome back to Vancouver!

Today, venture out to Stanley Park, a 1,000-acre public park that is a must-visit for any Vancouver tourist.

There are many activities in the park. 

The seawall is an excellent way to start your exploration, whether on foot, on a bike or rollerblading.

The famous Vancouver Aquarium is also located inside the park. 

It was Canada's first public aquarium, and it is home to thousands of ocean species and marine beauties.

A must for me is a visit to the nine totem poles at Brockton Point. 

It is BC's most visited attraction for a reason!

Take time to read up about the First Nations' history behind them. 

End your visit with a stop at the Rose Garden, where both your eyes and your nostrils will be amazed.

Next, head to Gastown. 

Walk down Water Street, visit the famous steam clock and check out the boutiques and galleries. 

It is also a great spot to grab dinner like a Vancouver foodie.

Day 11 - Vancouver

All good things must come to an end. 

If your flight is in the evening, I suggest a visit to Granville Island. 

There, you must visit the Public Market, take a water taxi tour of False Creek and grab a beer at the Granville Island Brewery. 

Then, it is time to board your flight back home, your head filled with grand memories of the beautiful Vancouver Island!
